Descriptive and Mathematical Moddeling
DMM
The competency DMM is about using mathematical models and mathematics in your research and designs to verify your designs or to get to new insights which help you to develop/improve your concepts.
I passed my Physics and Modeling exam this semester. Although I passed my exams I haven’t used the new learnt skills during this semester. There was no need for them to use. From the two basic courses which I passed I think that Modeling is the most important to master as a designer. I think this, because Modeling allows you to translate non-mathematical problems to mathematical problems. Many design problems are non-mathematical and sometimes hard to solve could maybe be solve by modeling the problem. For example you could make a model about the perfect lightning setup for a road. By making this model you gain insights in the different factors and how much they influence the result. When you know this as a designer you could easier make a good design for a lighting setup for that road.
Next year I want to work with external data to train the data modeling area of DMM. Getting used to work with external data and convert this data in useful information is something which looks interesting from a designer point of view. I think this, because designers often are faced with a lot of data which they need to interpret in a specific way to do something useful with it.
