Teamwork and Communication

TC

TC is important. Not only in the context of the design process is this important, but it is also important for you as a person. Your whole life you need to work with other people and discuss and present things to get things properly done. Also a professional attitude is needed to have a good impression on people so they believe that you are serious about your business so they have a good feeling while working with or for you.

In contrast to my first project, I was part of a good function team this semester. We unfortunately lost a team member around the mid-term demo days, but this happily didn’t affect our project too much. Working always together on one place and making good agreements we created a pleasant work ambiance where we helped and inspired each other. For me this was a new experience, because first semester I really had problems regarding to teamwork, which led to the fact I almost had to do anything myself. It was great to not have to think of everything but that you can concentrate at a specific part of the project, because other members of your team concentrate on other things. This also results in a far more relaxing work atmosphere, which is again good for those “staring at the ceiling moments” to ask yourself some questions about the project or the concept you are working on. I need those “staring at the ceiling moments” to create some distance between myself and the project so I am able to criticize by own work

I also got a chance to develop this competency as chairman of the Board of the freshman of the rowing club Thêta. Here I learnt that bad communication can cause a lot of unwanted things, unnecessary expense, unnecessary work, and the most important of all, badly organized events. As chairman I was responsible for overall quality of the events we planned. The best way to be successful as committee is then by dividing tasks and making sure everybody is communication good, so that just like a design team, people can focus on different aspects which make or break concept. I learnt how to properly prepare meetings approximately once a week to enhance this communication within the committee.

TC is a competency which I, of course, will keep on developing coming years by being actively involved in presentations, teamwork, verbal communication and written communication within the coming teams I need to work in.
